Sheatre’s interactive forum theatre production (inspired by Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed) starts conversations about dating abuse and sexual violence prevention. After you see the story played out, key scenes are revisited and the audience intervenes to change the outcome. Together we explore the issues that can lead to dating abuse and sexual violence and talk about ways that we can encourage healthy relationships instead.
While the cast is white and the story presented in this play are hetero-normative, dating violence and sexual abuse are issues for all races and cultures, gender identities and sexual preferences. We are committed to an open and inclusive dialogue and interactive session, that recognizes that Indigenous People and People Of Colour and the LGBTQ* community (among others) are at a higher risk of violence.
Originally developed in 2006 as a collaboration between Grey Bruce teens and local artists, the play has since toured eight times in two provinces, has been translated into French and adapted into an interactive film. This event is hosted by The Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough in partnership with Fleming College, Kawartha Sexual Assault Center, and the John Howard Society. The presentation is appropriate for ages 13 and up.
Suggested donation is $15 or pay what you can. No one will be turned away because of funds.
