summer 2024

THE web of meaning Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe.

by jeremy lent

The Nonfiction Book Club has decided to spend the whole summer on one long read.  Lent’s book investigates humanity’s age-old questions – Who am I? Why am I? How should I live? – from a fresh perspective, weaving together findings from modern systems thinking, evolutionary biology, and cognitive neuroscience with insights from Buddhism, Taoism, and Indigenous wisdom.

The Book Club will meet only twice over the summer to discuss this book – July 18 and August 15 at 2pm.

All are welcome. Contact Mundy McLaughlin with suggestions or questions.

MAY 2024

REHEARSALS FOR LIVING

by Robin Maynard and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson

Rehearsals for Living is a captivating and visionary work—part debate, part dialogue, part lively and detailed familial correspondence between two razor-sharp writers. By articulating to each other Black and Indigenous perspectives on our unprecedented here and now, and reiterating the long-disavowed histories of slavery and colonization that have brought us to this moment, Maynard and Simpson create something new: an urgent demand for a different way forward, and a poetic call to dream up other ways of ordering earthly life.
