Transition Time Is Upon Us: An Update from your Board

The news about Rev. Julie’s departure from UFP at the end of June has started our community on a journey of transition and change. Within her announcement and the accompanying letter from our Board President, Stephanie Wildheart, there were reassurances that the Board has strong support and resources from both the CUC (Canadian Unitarian Council) and the UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association), including a whole Transitions Department and Officer.

The Board held as special meeting last Friday (February 11th) to begin what we know will be a many-faceted series of steps and tasks between now and the spring. It is accepted and recommended practice within the UU denomination that after a settled minister departs an Interim Minister is chosen and hired to work with the congregation for a suggested two-year period. The search for a settled minister does not begin until after the Interim Ministry begins.

We are at the point now of forming an Interim Ministry Search Committee, and two members of the Board, Guy Hanchet and Meredith Hill were asked to approach congregational members to join this committee. It has been a very gratifying experience for we have found high interest, dedication and commitment in everyone we’ve called. We’ll update you soon as to who is on that committee.

Our work will follow a pretty tight timeline with search processes and hiring occurring in April, May, and June and the new Interim Minister appointed as of August 1st.

So that’s what lies ahead and we will certainly keep the lines of communication open and keep you updated as steps and stages unfold. For information about upcoming community communication opportunities click HERE
